An important part of our annual Indiana 911 Professionals Conference is the Indiana 911 Professionals Kids Hero Award. This is an opportunity to recognize children who dialed 9-1-1 to report an emergency. The attention given to this important event assists in raising awareness and promoting 9-1-1 in the Public Safety industry, our Associations, and the residents and visitors whom we serve and protect.
Hero nominees are young children under the age of 18 who have made exceptional calls to 9-1-1. Calls nominated must be true emergency use of 9-1-1: to save a life, stop a crime, or report a fire. The call should have ended positively and the Hero nominee should have been able to interact well and assist the dispatcher or call taker.
The nominee(s) selected will need to be able to travel (with at least one adult family member) to the Indiana Public Safety Communications Conference in Indianapolis. The selected Hero will be recognized and presented with their award during the conference. Additionally, we would love to have the call-taker and someone from their administration in attendance as well as the call taker will also be receiving recognition for their work during the call.
The 9-1-1 call had to be made sometime between August 13, 2021 and August 19, 2022. The deadline for your Hero’s nomination form and call audio (and any news articles or clippings) is Friday August 19, 2022.
